So yesterday we had the town Code Enforcement Officer call telling me we could only have 6 hens, no roosters and we needed a permit to have those chickens.
Well as you know, I have way more than that here on my homestead. Supposedly our local pd "observed" we had chickens running around here. Well seems we habe had chickens here 3 years and goats 2, I have a feeling it was someone local who has nothing better to do but be a busy body.
Before we purchased the goats I had checked the code and thought we were in the clear.
After many tears and phone calls Code Officer called me back letting us know he was wrong and we can have whatever we want for animals but we had to purchase a $50 farm permit and the chickens have to be fenced in. Which neither is a big deal. For now the chickens need to stay in the coopuntil spring when we can build a big run for them. If we add onto our barn we will need a construction permit.
I'm ver thankful I do NOT need to get rid of any of them and even added pigs to our permit with hopes of getting some in the spring.
Beginnings of having a Hobby Farm that was a dream for 19 years. Come share my excitement on this journey.

I added a hanging scale to the kitchen.
Today I started making a coffee bar on top of the buffet. I'm hoping to finish that tomorrow.

1st "Farm Equipment"
Today we purchased a rotortillar on clearance from Tractor Supply!!! We are storing it in the basement until we can use it in the spring.
In March I can start seedlings. I have some pea fencing, potato buckets and tomato cages on the way as well. I am SO excited to be planning our garden this year especially now that I have a pressure canner. (Thanks again Mom and Dad❤)
So today I bought 2 ferrets!! With the help of my bestie we named them Miss Bianca and Meeko.
I love all my animals!! I guess I should say we have a petting zoo/homestead.
Back to the 🏈 game!!

Seed order is in
I was able to order seeds for my garden yesterday!! I know it's a littlr early but at least that is done. I ordered a few more herb seeds as we are expanding our herb garden this year. The husband is going to build a few raised beds for the herbs.
I ordered a few purple veggies this year!
Also today we are going to go to tractor supply to buy a rotortillar they have in clearance. Now there will be no excuses not to get gardening done.
Im hoping in the spring to get a few fruit trees to add to our little homestead and also a couple of pigs. The only chickens we will get this year are meat birds! My layers are still doing well.
Later this am we are heading to VT to pick up my oldest son and his girlfriend for the weekend. I love having them come home and visit!!
Now to shop for a few gardening tools!
Think Spring!!

Merry Christmas
Hope you are all having a very Merry Christmas! Our house is all picked up. My boys are enjoying their gifts while we wait for Christmas Lunch to finish cooking.
My parents gave me a pressure canner for Christmas. I can NOT wait to order seeds for my garden this year. I can make bone broth now and can it.
I also received some cute chicken jewelry. I have earrings to match the silver necklace.
Last of my gifts those who know me in person see how busy I am as a sports mom and I now have the perfect bag to carry all the blankets, snacks and drinks in.
I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas!
In closing, I will leave you with a photo of the weather here in Maine today with the prediction of 8-12"

200th Post
Yesterday I started decorating for Christmas. We bought wreaths from my son who is selling wreaths for his college baseball team.
In order to finish decorating I need to go buy some more tacks. We will buy our Christmas tree next week. I love having a real tree.
My favorite part of Christmas is decorating with my grandparents decorations. It's too bad when you are younger you can not see the value in family. With each famy member that passes a hole in your heart gets a little bigger. I take comfort in knowing some family I will see again in Heaven.
Hoping my husband is able to switch over the electricity to our well. The person who used to own our house disconnected the electricity to our well today. We were waiting for our electrician to come back in the spring from FL to convert it but we have no choice now. Having no water or heat when it is in the 20's is not fun. In the future we will be investing in a pellet or wood stove.
Once I get done decorating i will post some pics!

Heat is on and Homemade gifts
Finally turned the heat on this past week. We had days in the 20's. We had a dusting of snow but in other areas it has snowed more than here.
A friend of mine came over Thursday and after an hour figured out what was wrong with my sewing machine and fixed it!! I was able to make an apron out of my grandfather's handkerchiefs!! I also sewed a memory pillow out of my other grandfather's t-shirt. Next I am going to sew a memory bear.
I making my oldest son's girlfriend see themed homemade gifts. I can't wait to post pics but it will have to be after she has them. I can say most I have never made before.
We did have 3 ducks die last week due to being trampled. A hard life lesson to learn as one was my son's.
I noticed this year our goats fur is a lot thicker. I still may buy them a pony blanket to wear as I worry about them being cold.
Tomorrow I am going to visit my grandmother and look at a farmhouse. Enjoy your evening and I will post a pic of the Apron in another post along with some so-called glitter candles.
