Memory Garden

I'm very excited to show you I have some flowers starting to grow in my Memory Garden that I planted in the fall!! They are sprouting earlier than I anticipated.

The boys have named the chickens.
 We have Happy Feet and Chicken Little.
We are not allowed to let our chickens free range but when it's warm I let them roam the yard for awhile. Thankful they come when called. Here is a couple of pic of them.

I absolutely love this life. I'm learning and make many mistakes but it is a content life for me. ♡♡

Huge announcement!!!!

YES I AM SHOUTING. I CAN'T CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT, ONE OF OUR GIRLS LAID THEIR FIRST EGG!!!
Here is a pic of it in the nesting box and in the container. Yay!!!!

I feel like now I'm not just a chicken killer. I'm looking forward to expanding our flock from 2 to more. :)

Fingers crossed..

This is my first time starting plants from seeds inside.  I will keep you updated with progress.

16 different herbs planted. 2 need to be directly sown in the ground. I'm hoping they will grow well. I have not decided if I will leave some plants inside to have year round or not.
I'm most excited about the cilantro. I love homemade salsa and making it fresh out of our garden will be amazing later on this year.
I see why my family all gardens, it truly is relaxing.
We had some visitors at our bird feeders. (Due to all the snow melting here they sit on the ground until the ground thaws enough to put the shepherd hook in the ground).

Package in mail

I received my herb seeds in the mail today. :) I will be busy starting plants this weekend. I am so excited to garden this year. Reny's has quite a bit of garden tools that are rather inexpensive I plan on stocking up on in a couple of weeks.

I visited with my grandparents wednesday evening and I brought my onion seeds to her house as we will be planting some seeds together this year. She is a Master Gardener so I plan on absorbing as much information from her as I can. My mom and uncle are also master gardeners. I'm very blessed to have family that garden and preserve their harvest. I will have plenty of instructors.
This evening I am making Corn chowder. I have not made any chowder In years. For dessert I plan on making the kids some dirt. I made it last night for company and will make it again tonight.

Today I picked up a few more cookbooks to add to my collection.  77 to be exact and also a recipe box exactly like my mom has.

Happy Valentine's Day

I had planned on going to church this am. But I have a sick little boy so I stayed home. I finished sewing the girlfriend gifts this am.
I made these out of felt and they are all hand sewn.

After the boys gave their gifts I was busy in the kitchen cooking a very special lunch for my 5 guys that were home and 3 of my boys girlfriend.
For the first dish I made Pizza Popcorn.
Then we made Rose Pizzas. (One of those fun recipes going around facebook.)

For the main dish we had lemon chicken and potatoes.  I had cooked mine in the crockpot but you can bake it in the oven.
We had the table set for a very special occasion complete with tea lite candles.

Here are the 3 fabulous couples.

For dessert I made Chocolate Bunt hidden Heart Cake, Homemade Red Velvet Ice cream and Conversation Bark.

I think I had as much fun serving the family lunch as they did eating it.
Hubby and I took a random trip to Portland Friday. I had never been to Cabellas so that was our first stop.  I got a new camo sweatshirt and phone case. They have an aquarium full of native fish.

After wandering around Cabellas we went to Cracker Barrel for supper.  My absolute favorite place to eat and shop. My hubby bought my Valentine gift (s) here. I absolutely LOVE my new Chicken boots!!

I have my pair of chicken s/p shakers on the back of my stove.

Speaking of Chickens🐔🐔🐔, the weather here in Maine has been absolutely frigid. I am very worried my last 2 girls will freeze to death or get frost bite. So far they are 2 very tough girls.
I'm waiting for seeds to start arriving in the mail.2 more months and plants and trees will start arriving!
I am done with Winter and yucky roads.

Seed order placed

I am so excited to say, my seed order is placed for my garden this year.  Herb seeds have been ordered. I have been searching herb garden designs on pinterest. The herb set ordered comes with 18 different herbs.
Besides veggies and herbs we have ordered a blueberry bush, raspberry bush and blackberry bush. We ordered a 5 in 1 dwarf apple tree, 5 in 1 dwarf pear tree and a dwarf fruit coctail tree.
For perennials we have coming a red bleeding heart plant and a white one, violas (Johnny jump ups), 2 Pink Pussy willows, red and pink azaleas, a Rose of Sharon, 2 forsythia, 2 hydrangea trees and 2 blue hydrangea. My memory garden will be comoleted. I can not wait to be able to post pictures of it.  We also get a red maple tree free as I placed some of my order with Arbor Day Foundation. The other places I ordered from were Burpee, Farmer Seed and Nursery and Burgess.  I'm hoping our garden will be big enough to be able to can!!
We went to Tractor Supply to buy a cute Shepherds hook to hang my grandmother's bird feeder on and we also bought a cute red barn feeder.

They have a great selection of feeders!

Super Bowl 50

I have been very I'll yesterday and today. I have what my 2nd oldest son has had. I'm living off tea, sudafed, ibuprofen and sleep.
Where the Super Bowl is this evening I decided to make some homemade snacks to eat this evening for the family. We have chicken stew going in the crock pot. I made football shaped cookies, football Jell-O Jigglers, homemade soft pretzels and taco dip. I will make garlic bread to go along with the stew.

The youngest 2 boys have been playing outside most of the day today.

I think Oakley enjoys watching them play as much as I do.

Groundhog Day

Supposedly spring is coming early this year!! With the looks of our lawn and only have of it covered in snow. It does look that way. It's been warm enough so I have let the chickens out of their coop the past couple of days.
We had some snow over the weekend and my boys at different times made me look at the driveway to see this:

Sunday I had a crave for my grandmother's American Chop Suey. Instead of tomato sauce she used Tomato Soup. It was really delicious!

The last of my parents belongings are on the moving truck and will be heading to GA soon. I was able to spend all day with them yesterday while the moving company was packing their stuff. Hopefully the house up here sells soon so they are able to buy a house down there. Hubby and I will finish cleaning out whatever the movers did not move when it goes under contract. (Of course that means I get all the treasures left behind 😆)
We finally found a church that the boys like and I think I found a great Sunday school class with a group of women that seem nice and kind. I will be attending a woman's retreat in April with my friend and the group of women from Sunday School Class. I have not been to a retreat in quite a few years.
My oldest son was accepted to his first choice of college. We are waiting to see where else he gets accepted.

He is excited to play baseball and get a degree in Sports Management.
Today I plan on drawing my garden plans and an herb garden. For supper we are going to have stir fry. I need to wait for 2 of my boys to get back from their basketball game. One of my boys has been home sick the last 2 days. The dr thought he had pneumonia but the chest xray was clear!!
Youngest 2 boys are home. Time to prep for supper.
