Quiet Sunday

Today 2 of my boys had a double header baseball game even though it's gloomy and rainy. The weather is more like football weather than baseball but it is what it is.
3 of the other boys and I left the games early as it's hard for me to sit on bleachers for more than an hour at a time. I made the 3 boys supper and have supper waiting for whenever the others arrive.
Laundry is all caught up and taken care of thanks to 3 of the boys. Conquering Mt. Washmore is an accomplishment all in its own with a large family.
Not much else is new around the homestead. Hoping to start working on a menu planner with accompanying grocery list this evening for next week's meals. I get tired of fixing the same things day in and day out so maybe if I plan ahead, we will not have boring meals!:)
Hope you are having a good Sunday!

Memorial Weekend

This weekend we remembered those who have passed on before us and those that have served our country.
Yesterday we got our garden planted.

Today we went to Acadia National Park and had a much needed relaxing day together. We even packed a picnic.

Acadia National Park is beautiful. If you ever come to Maine it's a must see.

Weekend Plans

I had hoped to get our garden planted today but it was too cold and windy.
Northern Maine had snow this morning. I'm glad we didn't get any snow here!
Tomorrow it's supposed to hit the 70's so we plan on tilling the garden a couple more times and I will plant my veggies.
My chickens started their grower/finisher feed today. The girls are getting big and are so joyful.  We have named 2 of the chickens. One is MS. Houdini and the other is MS. Ninja. MS. Houdini has figured out how to squeeze herself out of the coop with the tiniest space left with one side of the door not latched.  The other likes to fly up and kick the boys when they go near the girls.
I will try to remember to take pics of the glass lanterns I have hanging from the apple tree and post them this coming week.
Monday we plan on going to the beach and going for a hike. We will also cheer on the Veteran's at the parade!

Have a great weekend!!

Meet Jordan

Here is our newest family member

He doesn't mind being held as long as the dogs stay away from him. If the dogs come too close he nips. He is sweet natured overall.

Updated House pics

Here are pics of the entryway completed so far. Totally forgot to post these. Most of the decorations were my grandmother's.

Not bad for a space that used to be a garage!! Once we build the other bedroom late summer/early fall we will tape, mud and then pain the entryway a soft yellow color to keep it bright and cheery.

Weekend Progress in Photos

The family and I had a great weekend of getting yard work. It's a work in progress but it is well worth the time and effort we all put into it.
We planted a blueberry and raspberry plant and are hoping to get one more of each in the next couple of weeks to plant on a hillside we have.

We just need to finish the rock surround around the blueberry plant. :)
We ended up moving our trampoline and fire pit. It's on the other side where hubby tilled a new garden spot.

Here is a photo of our garden. Hubby will till it one more time before we plant.

Here are pics of 2 new flower beds. One is in front of the house and one is on the side of the house facing the road. Both have a wild flower mix planted and the one along side the house I also planted kid sized giant sunflowers.

Last but not least. We have an old crab apple tree that was overgrown with plants. Hubby trimmed all that away and sometime this summer we are hoping to make a tire swing to hang from its branches.

These beautiful girls chattered away the whole time everyone was working..:)

Pics of New Coop

New Coop and some Very happy Ladies. Posing for the camera is Houdini. She likes to figure out how to escape!!
Next pic is our bunny cage awaiting the newest addition to our family today.

More pics to come later today.

Ahhh Spring

SlOWLY but surely signs of spring are happening here. Our grass is beginning to fill in nicely out back. Our girls are loving their new coop although someone or something ripped the top of it so I screwed it shut!!
Today we are adding a bunny to our little hobby farm. I'm thankful we have bunny supplies already from having our chicks in a rabbit cage to start off with!!
I really need to go to Tractor supply today and get some stuff to get rid of the ticks. They are horrible this year!!
I'm also hoping this weekend hubby is able to till a garden spot for us!! I'm so excited to be able to grow our own veggies thIs year. I'm hoping to grow enough to can some this fall!
I will post pics of how big our hens are( we are down to 5 as our cat killed one) and will post a pic of our bunny.
Next year in an hopinG to get a pair of dwarf goats and to raise a pig for meat.
