I have a little treasure that I will end up sharing with some of the women I've met online in a Vintage Housewife group. I love reading anything about prairie life as the west was settled through books about life through the 50's.
Here is a photo of my little treasure:
These are 4 journals from 1945, 1954, 1957 and 1972 by a woman who farmed in Ohio. It is a record of the weather/temperature each day, who she visited or went to see her. A couple people she has mentioned that have passed away you can read a little about them online. (Kinda creepy I know, yet it really fascinates me)
I know some of my family journal and hopefully someday I am able to read them just as a different perspective on life and how life was lived.
Grammie mentioned to me when she first got married the houses they lived in didnt have indoor plumbing. She has also stayed in places that used gas lights instead of electricity.
I must admit I am one who likes seeing how people live off grid but dont know if I could live without some modern conveniences. I could do solar/wind power but would not be able to have no internet.
With the Covid-19 restrictions I am cooking more again and tomorrow will be baking. I enjoy my routine but still feel a little stressed with normal routines broken. I'm making the best out of life as it is right now and am going to cuddle with all 3 dogs and read.
P.s. Oreo and Cecilia were not thrilled with the 7 inches of snow we got overnight. The only came out of the barn a few times today.
Beginnings of having a Hobby Farm that was a dream for 19 years. Come share my excitement on this journey.

Memory Garden
I'm very excited to show you I have some flowers starting to grow in my Memory Garden that I planted in the fall!! They are sprouting earlier than I anticipated.
The boys have named the chickens.
We have Happy Feet and Chicken Little.
We are not allowed to let our chickens free range but when it's warm I let them roam the yard for awhile. Thankful they come when called. Here is a couple of pic of them.
Here is Chicken Little.
Happy Feet.
Here are both in their run.
I absolutely love this life. I'm learning and make many mistakes but it is a content life for me. ♡♡

Sickness begins
I have a kiddo that isn't feeling well whatsoever. He is home sick from school. He is bundled up on the couch. Our daschund is under there with him sleeping.
I need to clean the house and wait for the oil man to come. Next week we are having our furnace serviced as it has been running rough. We are thinking of adding a pellet stove in here eventually. I would love to have some wood heat instead of just oil.
Income taxes are filed.
Hubby found a rototiller we will be buying in a month. I'm so excited to have our own!!! We will expand the garden this year doubling it and I plan on having an herb garden this year!!! Also some other exciting news hubby is on board with us getting ducks!! He will build them their own little swimming hole :)
I looked at seeds at tractor supply yesterday but for veggies they did not have quite what I wanted. I think I will be ordering them through a catalog this year. The boys are so excited to garden with us. I did find a shepherd hook for my grandmother's bird feeder. In the spring we will get that as I love watching the birds.
Have a great day!!! Time to get that housework going. 😀

Meet my family
We are an official family of 9. After the adoption we celebrated by going to BWW and we went to the movies to see the Minions. But here is a pic of who we are for those that are not family reading this.
We had such an incredible turnout for the adoption. We are a very blessed family.

Weekend Progress in Photos
The family and I had a great weekend of getting yard work. It's a work in progress but it is well worth the time and effort we all put into it.
We planted a blueberry and raspberry plant and are hoping to get one more of each in the next couple of weeks to plant on a hillside we have.
We just need to finish the rock surround around the blueberry plant. :)
We ended up moving our trampoline and fire pit. It's on the other side where hubby tilled a new garden spot.

Here is a photo of our garden. Hubby will till it one more time before we plant.
Here are pics of 2 new flower beds. One is in front of the house and one is on the side of the house facing the road. Both have a wild flower mix planted and the one along side the house I also planted kid sized giant sunflowers.
Last but not least. We have an old crab apple tree that was overgrown with plants. Hubby trimmed all that away and sometime this summer we are hoping to make a tire swing to hang from its branches.
These beautiful girls chattered away the whole time everyone was working..:)

New Member of the Family
So my children's dream came true today. Hubby decided it was time to get them a Black Lab.
Meet Oakley!!!!
Meet Oakley!!!!
Our Daschund is NOT very happy at all. He has been the big cheese for 10 years and his turf is being invaded. He keeps looking at Oakley and barking at him. Hopefully he adjusts well to Oakley like he did Sylvester.
