Adoption update

We signed our 2nd set of adoption paperwork tonight and it should be submitted to the state by the end of the week. I also made sure I gave our adoption lawyer the paperwork she needed as well today. Now we wait for that paperwork to come back. Sign that and last set of papers we should be signing when we adopt the 4 kids!!!! It certainly has been a long 2 1/2 year process buy my heart truly goes out to each and every person in foster care and adopts children from DHHS. My heart goes out to the parents and to the children involved.
In 8-10 weeks this journey will end and we will be planning a mega vacation to celebrate next year!!

Food for Thought....

I have to share a story with you that truly breaks my heart. How many of you have people in your life that you consider part of your "family "? Could be a neighbor best friend, your child's friend's parents, etc....the list could go on but you get my gist. Hubby and I have lived in this town for just over 6 years. Our former landlord/neighbor became part of our family. He is like a grandfather to my hubby as all of my hubby's grandparents have passed away years ago
He became close to our family as he is elderly(96 now) and his family does not get along with him at all. The man has given ALL of his children land which they all have established homes and have grown up their whole lives in this area. To make a long story short this man is considering giving up everything in his home he lives in now and moving to another one of his rental homes because he feels defeated by his family. His flesh and blood. How sad is that?! It truly breaks my heart and I told him never worry hubby and I will be there for him forever.  I understand that family can be aggrivating and annoying, whatever else but there Has to come a point in time when forgiveness has to take place
This man is leaving his children just about everything he owns. He has sold some things or given things away to his family already because he feels so deflated. You are carrying your parents legacy...yes they may be stubborn but they were molded by their parents legacy
Times have changed, appreciate the past. Let's teach our children respect for the elderly. One day we will be old and I don't think any of us want to be treated horribly when we are old.

Master bath Flooring

Hubby began to install the flooring in the master bathroom tonight. He's hoping to finish it tomorrow and then put the new flooring in the kids bathroom. It's so exciting fixing up our own home!!! It's a little bit at a time but I do love it!
Close up of old and new bathroom flooring pic 1. Pic 2 whole view this far.

Love that this flooring actually makes our rockin' 60's peach toilet and sink look like they belong.

Also today we had 5 windows that needed blinds out in them. So while hubby was at an appointment I decided I would out the mini blinds up. 3 out of the 5 blinds are up. I have learned that running a drill is NOT my forte'. A preschooler could do it better than me but I did it!! Tomorrow morning I will out the other blinds up. (if you hear loud voices it's ok it's
just me freaking out at the drill lol) It makes me appreciate my Mr. Fix-it hubby even more.

We bought our faucet for our "new" (antiqur) farm sink. Hubby is waiting for his sister to clear out a spot in her barn so we can go pick it up.

I really love my "faux farmhouse " ranch:)

New Member of the Family

So my children's dream came true today. Hubby decided it was time to get them a Black Lab.
Meet Oakley!!!!

Our Daschund is NOT very happy at all. He has been the big cheese for 10 years and his turf is being invaded. He keeps looking at Oakley and barking at him. Hopefully he adjusts well to Oakley like he did Sylvester.

Sunday Ramblings

Today has been the most relaxing day I have had in awhile. A friend came over with her husband and 5 year old son.  She helped my oldest son with homework then we all rode to bring him to his gf's house. Hubby refereed most of the day.
My brother popped in for a quick visit. He looked the happiest he has looked in awhile.
Right now the hubby is watching Animal Planet and i'm curled up reading a book on my Kindle app.
I'm reading "Diary of a Disappointed Wife". I'm about 3/4 of the way through it. There are a couple of funny parts of it that remind me of hubby and I. I love to read. It's my favorite past time. I need to find some good mini farming books to read. I want to read what makes to most sense to do on our 1.8 acres.
What books are you reading right now and what farming /homesteading books do you recommend?

New Year 2015

Hello friends and family. We had snow today after our very green Christmas here in Maine.
Here are my youngest 2 boys playing outside today.
I signed up for backyard chickens as I am doing some research now on a coop and what types of chickens to get. Due to our town ordinance we are only allowed 6 hens and they have to be in an enclosed coop. Which after seeing pics that is what I wanted to have anyway.
I need to call and find out what I can have for barnyard "pets" as they are deemed here. I know with my zone we are in some of the restrictions do not apply but better safe than sorry!!
Hubby and I put up some old window picture frames yesterday. I will post pics soon of them!! Our home is getting cozier!
Our next project will be putting in our sink and faucet in the kitchen. Not sure when we are doing that but it should be in the next couple of months.
Thoughts of our garden are in the plans too!!
New Year, new hobbies, dreams slow becoming a reality!!
